Peter J. Galea

As a large format photographer in north Napa, I have completed a project during the lockdown photographing the art installations on the Art Walk In Yountville.

I use a 1932 Deardorff 8x10 view camera with a 1957 Kodak Ektar lens. Kodak Plus-X black and white film, long discontinued is my film of choice. In a wet darkroom the film is developed by inspection, then contact printed on Azo developed in Amidol in the tradition of Edward Weston.

This combination of film, paper and processing technique produces images with a
unique signature and utilizing 8x10 film gives resolution and tonality that is unmatched with smaller formats.

The art project is new for me as I specialize in portraits.
